ADHD Evaluations for Adolescents (16+) and Adults
Have You Always Felt Capable of More?
Maybe you've spent years wondering why things seem harder than they should be.
You start projects but struggle to finish them.
You procrastinate even when something is important.
You feel overwhelmed by emails, paperwork, deadlines, and everyday responsibilities.
You lose track of time. Forget appointments. Misplace things.
You know you're intelligent. Other people know it too.
So why does it feel like you're constantly working harder than everyone else just to keep up?
For many people, the answer may involve ADHD or executive functioning difficulties.

Why Seek an ADHD Evaluation?
An evaluation can help answer questions such as:
* Do I actually have ADHD?
* Why do I struggle with organization and follow-through?
* Why do I procrastinate even when I care about something?
* Why do I feel overwhelmed by tasks that seem easy for other people?
* Could something other than ADHD be contributing to the problem?
Sometimes ADHD is confirmed.
Sometimes the evaluation reveals anxiety, depression, executive functioning difficulties, sleep problems, or other factors that may be affecting performance.
Either way, the goal is the same: helping you better understand yourself and identify practical next steps.

Why Are So Many Women Being Diagnosed Later in Life?
For many years, ADHD was primarily studied in boys. We now understand that ADHD often presents differently in girls and women.
Instead of being disruptive or hyperactive, many girls learn to compensate. They may appear successful on the surface while quietly struggling with organization, overwhelm, procrastination, perfectionism, forgetfulness, chronic stress, or feelings of never quite measuring up.
As a result, many women reach adulthood without realizing that ADHD may be contributing to their difficulties.
Some women begin to wonder about ADHD after one of their children is diagnosed.
Others seek evaluation after years of struggling at work despite being intelligent, capable, and highly motivated.
Many describe a tremendous sense of relief when they finally understand why certain aspects of life have always felt more difficult than they seemed to be for everyone else.
An ADHD evaluation can provide answers, understanding, and a clearer path forward.
A Different Approach
β
Many ADHD evaluations rely heavily on a brief interview or a single rating scale.
My approach is more comprehensive.
I consider the whole person, including attention, executive functioning, emotional factors, personality characteristics, life history, and other issues that may be contributing to the difficulties you're experiencing.
The goal is not simply to assign a diagnosis.
The goal is to provide meaningful answers.

I Understand These Questions Personally
β
I was accepted to Wesleyan University in 1989.
From the outside, it looked like everything should work out.
But it didn't.
I eventually had to leave school because something wasn't right, and I had no idea why.
For years, I assumed there was some character flaw. Maybe I wasn't trying hard enough. Maybe I wasn't disciplined enough. Maybe I simply wasn't living up to my potential.
Years later, I finally received better answers.
I learned that I had ADHD and executive functioning difficulties that had gone unrecognized for years.
Understanding those challenges changed my life.
It also changed the way I understand the people I work with today.
When someone comes to me wondering why they struggle with focus, organization, procrastination, time management, or follow-through despite being intelligent and capable, I understand how confusing and frustrating that experience can be.
Sometimes an evaluation confirms ADHD.
Sometimes it points in a different direction.
Either way, my goal is to help people gain a clearer understanding of themselves and move forward with confidence.

Is an ADHD Evaluation Enough?
For some people, a focused ADHD evaluation provides exactly the answers they need.
For others, the picture is more complicated.
Learning disabilities, executive functioning deficits, anxiety, depression, academic difficulties, and other factors can sometimes contribute to the same problems people assume are caused by ADHD.
In those situations, a comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation may be more appropriate.
If you are seeking academic accommodations, documentation for college or graduate school, or a deeper understanding of your cognitive strengths and weaknesses, you may wish to consider a comprehensive evaluation.
